Snow frolicking

Snow is white powdery fluff that defines fun, and when you get past that whole cold thing, its pretty awesome.

I'm learning to fall in love with snow again.  This is Kenai's first winter, and probably the first he's seen snow since he would have been too young to be outside when it may have been around after he was born (3.5.2010). He wasn't born knowing that he loved it, that he was built for it, that he evolved to coexist with it; but, if you watch him play in the snow, it is SO easy to see how much he loves it.  Pure, unadulterated happiness.  He sprints across its surface, stride lengthening the further he goes.  He darts and dashes, pivots and balks.  His movements are stunning to observe.  And then, in the middle of his speeding display he skids to a stop.  He looks my way, tongue lolling, eyes sparkling, and puppy-bows towards me.  And then, just as quick, he bolts off again.  "Chase me, play with me, run with me!" he seems to say.  And so, I do.

I had forgotten how much fun it is to just run and frolic in the snow.  How the feeling of freezing, god-awful cold disappears if you exert some energy.  It was awesome.  And do you know what the best part is?  We're expected to get another 2 - 4 inches tomorrow.

Tomorrow, and the rest of my break, is a time for the beginnings of skijor training with Kenai.  Skijoring is the sport of a dog pulling you on skis.  I absolutely cannot wait for the day we can do it flawlessly.  I don't expect much at first, in fact, I'm full-intent on wearing a helmet to avoid disaster!  But its going to be such a fun journey towards perfection.
