Equestrian Stimulus Spending

Like Amanda, I spent my stimulus check on boring, responsible adult things like debt. But! Like Amanda, I think it is a fun exercise to imagine what horse-focused things I could spend it on if I didn't have the burdens of adult responsibility to look after.

In my hypothetical world of spending my $1,200 on superfluous horse-related things I would buy:

  • Navy saddle covers (from Amanda!) for each of my three English saddles so my tack room looks more "uniform" - 3 @ $20/ea. for a total of $60

  • a Back on Track sheet for each of the ponies - 3 @ $200/ea. for a total of $600

  • a new pair of Ariat Terrains because the pair I scored for $25 at a consignment shop in 2013 are on their last legs - $105

  • some tall boots that actually fit me; a cursory search found the Ariat Volant S Back zip boot on sale for $260

  • and I'd put the final $175 toward a riding-specific long raincoat. I'd like to see the Kerrits Coaches coat come back in stock! C'mon Kerrits, please?

What about you?

  1. I'm flattered that I made the list!

Not that I am inviting irresponsiblity, but my local tack shop just put the Ariat Terrains on 40% off: https://www.straffordsaddlery.com/product/ariat-womens-h2o-terrain-boot/flash-sale (I would have been seriously tempted by a pair if they had them in my size, my own pair are in tough shape)

ALSO, I am kind of bummed now that I didn't think to include more Back on Track stuff in my list...!

    1. I went so far as to put those boots in my cart...and then did the responsible thing and resisted purchase.

    2. Ha, good for you, I bought the tall boots that they had 40% off in my size...and were the exact ones I'd put on my stimulus list. No regrets!

  2. You and Amanda, being all responsible adults, makin' me feel guilty LOL. This is kind of fun. I actually did briefly consider blowing my stimulus money on custom Mattes pads from Hufglocken and some new tall boots from Mountain Horse (or even bigger - customs from La Mundial!). But instead I'll "invest" it in property improvements by way of my tack shed ;) lol

    1. Sounds like a win to me! And I mean, my responsible use of it was to pay off barn debt. Still horse related? lol

  5. Ugh...we didn't get nay stimulus money. Boo. But even without it I sorta went on a completely uncharacteristic spending spree yesterday and bought all the things. Oops. I'd love to get a Back on track sheet for Eeyore and maybe some tall boots for myself some day. I have that Kerrits coat in red plaid and adore it. It is amazing. Snag one the moment they come back in.

    1. Of course you have one in red! Your favorite color! I really hope they'll bring it back because I absolutely will buy it immediately.

  6. Currently waffling on a bottle of Bruichladdich Octomore 10.1 at a cool $225 for a bottle. Because who doesn't need the scotchiest of scotches for the end times. Or maybe Dave and I could go halvsies on a bottle of Pappy if we could find one....

  7. I, uh, spent probably too much of my check on the limited-edition Breyer that I've always wanted. She is super gorgeous though!

  9. Since Amber really doesn't need anything now, it's hard for me to justify buying anything for her unless it's supplements LOL. I was a responsible adult and paid off debt too lol

    6. Oh no! Well, the only positive about a bad ride is that a better ride is almost guaranteed to be next =)

    7. You are so right! Thanks for that.

I’m such a creep but I found some 85$ terrains when I was shopping for mosquito eradicator stuff today. Valley Vet clearance they have sizes 6.5, 9, 7.5...
